Granville Medical Seeks Employees At VGCC Career Day On April 13

Granville Medical Center will be among 70-80 companies and agencies that will be looking for potential employees at the 27th annual Career Day at Vance-Granville Community College on Wednesday, April 13.

Career Day is held annually in the spring to give potential employers an opportunity to tell Vance-Granville graduates and potential graduates about what their companies and agencies do and about the type of workers they hire. Career Day will run from 9 a.m. to 12 noon in the Civic Center on VGCC’s main campus in Vance County. Companies and agencies will set up tables to provide information to graduates and to accept resumes.

Following the information session, several companies will hold interview sessions from 1 to 3:30 p.m. for May 2005 graduates and past graduates who register for the interviews.

Tonya Jones, director of Human Resources for Granville Medical Center, said the healthcare center in Oxford will be represented at Career Day. “In the three years I’ve been here, we have found that participating in Vance-Granville’s Career Day has definitely been beneficial,” she said.

“Vance-Granville prepares its students for the workforce, and they are able to perform the tasks they are trained for,” Jones said.

Like all medical facilities, Granville Medical has openings for healthcare graduates, Jones said. The hospital needs registered nurses (graduates of VGCC’s Associate Degree Nursing program) and pharmacy technician graduates. GMC also hires licensed practical nurses for its long-term care facility, and the center opened an urgent care facility in Creedmoor in May 2004 that hires healthcare graduates.

The chief nursing officer at Granville Medical will be participating in the afternoon interview sessions.

In addition, Jones will be taking resumes and job applications for clerical personnel to work in admissions. People with customer service and computer skills are sought for these positions.

Vance-Granville’s Career Center has sent notifications to area employers about the 2005 Career Day. Companies and agencies that plan to participate should notify the Career Center by March 24.

In addition to potential graduates currently enrolled at Vance-Granville, past graduates are invited to participate in Career Day. Graduates who wish to participate should pick up application packets at the Career Center on the main campus and return them by March 30.

Company representatives, VGCC graduates and potential graduates who may need more information about Career Day 2005 may call Career Center Director Barbara Smith at (252) 738-3326 or her assistant, Deborah Sullivan, at (252) 738-3360.
