Get Ready For ‘Watermelon Crawl,’ Other Line Dances In VGCC Course

There are more line dances than the “Electric Slide,” and Lori Forsythe will teach most of them in a Vance-Granville Community College class beginning Sept. 12.

The line dancing class will be held in Room 9111 on the lower level of the Civic Center on VGCC’s main campus from 7 to 8 p.m. for eight consecutive Tuesdays, Sept. 12-Oct. 31.

Forsythe, who has taught line dancing in the Watkins community several years, said she will teach all types of line dancing, from “Electric Slide” to “Watermelon Crawl” to “Funky Cowboy” to “Armadillo.” Dances will be done to country-and-western, jazz ballad and pop-rock music, including tunes by NSync and Britney Spears.

“I’ll introduce a new dance each of the eight weeks, and we will review the ones we’ve learned each succeeding week,” Forsythe said. “I teach each dance by sections, and I guarantee every person will learn a dance.”

Forsythe said line dancing is a good exercise, similar to aerobics, and, “It’s a fun way to exercise.”

The class tuition of $25 will be collected the first night of class, but VGCC officials said it is important for interested persons to pre-register by calling the Continuing Education office at (252) 492-2061, ext. 3316.
