Discounts on High School Equivalency tests, practice tests available at VGCC

Through Feb. 28, local adults can save $5 on a High School Equivalency (HSE) practice test or $10 on their first official test at Vance-Granville Community College, thanks to new special offers from the national GED Testing Service .

Adults studying for the GED test can take the official “GED Ready” practice test for $1 rather than the typical $6. The practice test helps students determine if they are ready to pass the GED test, and the particular skills they need to work on to pass the test. After taking the practice test, students will receive a personalized study plan highlighting the exact pages and chapters to study in commonly-used study books.

In addition, adults who are ready to take their first GED test will save $10 when they schedule. The discount is for first-time test-takers when they schedule any of the four GED test subjects: Reasoning Through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science, or Social Studies. VGCC is a Pearson VUE Authorized Test Center and is approved to deliver the official tests on computers at two locations: Main Campus (Vance County) and Franklin County Campus.

Although VGCC classes that prepare students to complete the HSE are free of charge, students must ordinarily pay fees of $20 per subject-area test (or $80 in total).

“If you made a New Year’s Resolution to complete your high school diploma, now is the time to start, while there is a unique opportunity to save money on a practice test or your first actual test,” said Cathy Barham, VGCC’s Adult Basic Skills department chair. “This opportunity is available not only to students who have already started studying through our program, but also to anyone in the community who has no prior experience with us but wants to find out if they are ready to take the HSE tests.”

Students will need to create a free “MyGED” account online at GED.com in order to benefit from these special offers.
