Credit scores, small business financing to be discussed at free VGCC Franklin Campus seminars

The Vance-Granville Community College Small Business Center has scheduled a pair of free seminars for Wednesday, March 23, at the college’s Franklin County Campus near Louisburg.

How to Improve Your Credit Score” will be held from 1 until 4 p.m. that day. “How to Finance a Small Business and Not Run Out of Money” will follow from 6 until 9 p.m. The location for both is Room F1208 (Building 1).

Leading both seminars will be Ed Ormsby of Pinehurst, who has been providing counseling and consulting services to small business owners for over 20 years. Ormsby is the former director of the Small Business Center at Edgecombe Community College and has held sales, marketing and executive management positions with Fortune 500, mid-sized and small businesses throughout the Southeast.

In the first seminar, Ormsby will describe how important it is for an entrepreneur to have acceptable credit in order to qualify for small business loans and to save thousands of dollars in interest. This seminar is designed to explain the mystery of credit reports and scores to small business owners and others, and give ideas on improving them. “No matter what your score, there is always room for improvement,” Ormsby said. Participants may later consult with the VGCC Small Business Center for further help.

The second seminar discusses how entrepreneurs obtain the capital they need to get started or to finance growth. This seminar is designed to show both prospective and existing small business owners how to determine how much they need, plus how and where they might get it.

For more information and to reserve a seat in one or both of these free seminars, contact Small Business Center director Tanya Weary at smallbusiness@vgcc.edu  or (252) 738-3240.
