The Vance-Granville Community Band will hold its fourth annual outdoor concert, as a special treat for Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 13. The program will begin at 3 p.m. at the Gazebo on VGCC’s Main Campus in Vance County. In the event of rain, the concert will be held in the VGCC Civic Center. Admission is free and the public is invited. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

Michael Stephenson, the college’s music instructor and director of the band, said that the concert program will feature music from the classic film, “The Sound of Music,” a selection from a symphony of Franz Schubert, the 1970s hit “Alla Barocco,” and two marches by John Philip Sousa. Dave Arner will be featured in a trumpet solo, and Raynah Adams of Henderson will join the band as guest vocalist, as he did for the ensemble’s 2011 holiday concert.

Formed in 2008, the Vance-Granville Community Band is a combination of VGCC students and interested citizens, including some high school students. Band members hail from all four counties of the college service area (Vance, Granville, Warren and Franklin) and beyond. For more information, call Michael Stephenson at (252) 738-3346.
