Career Readiness, Computer Skills Offered At VGCC Franklin Campus

A Pathways to Employment program class will begin at Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus in April to prepare participants for employment and provide them with basic computer skills.

The Career Readiness class will provide employability skills training for unemployed and underemployed adults. Career exploration, and job seeking and keeping strategies will be taught. Training includes note-taking, test-taking strategies, reducing test anxiety, and preparing for certification exams and placement tests.

This class will meet from April 9 to May 23 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Participants in the employability class will also attend an Introduction to Computer Skills class, to be taught from 12 noon to 2 p.m. the same days and dates. This class will introduce students to computers and computer terms, develop a moderate level of computer skills, and introduce participants to using the Internet, e-mail and search engines.

Unemployed and underemployed persons may qualify to attend the classes at no cost. For more information on eligibility and to register for either class, call Dorothy Williams, VGCC director of Human Resources Development, at 252-492-2061, ext. 3276.
