Assistant Dean Purvis To Lead Student Services

Effective July 1, Gene Purvis will become the dean of Student Services at Vance-Granville Community College. He has served as assistant dean since September 1995.

The change follows the decision by Maria Bailey, dean of Student Services since November 1997, to step down from that position. However, Bailey wished to remain at VGCC, and she will become a pre-health advisor, reporting to Vanessa Jones, dean of Student Development and Advancement Services.

Purvis earned a bachelor of science from Appalachian State University and a master’s in education from North Carolina State University. He was a vocational counselor at VGCC and served as coordinator of Financial Aid before becoming assistant dean. He lives in Butner with his wife, Amy, and daughters Dana, Keri and Alli.
