VGCC panel discussion to highlight paralegal careers

The Paralegal Technology program at Vance-Granville Community College will host a panel discussion on careers in the paralegal field on Wednesday, October 11, from 10 a.m. until noon in Building 4 on the college’s Franklin County Campus , where the program is based.

During the discussion, graduates of the VGCC Paralegal Technology program , attorneys, and the assistant director of the North Carolina State Bar Board of Paralegal Certification will discuss the expectations and various roles of paralegals in the workplace, ethics, confidentiality, employability and paralegal certification.

Panelists are scheduled to include: Leslie Hargrove of Henderson, a 2017 graduate of the Paralegal program who is now employed by the 9th Prosecutorial District Attorney’s Office; Kristy Hope Orr of Henderson, a 2015 graduate who is now employed by Perry & Waters, Attorneys at Law; Michelle Murdock of Raleigh, a 2015 graduate who is now employed by Howard, Stallings, From, Atkins, Angell & Davis, P.A.; Shana Nunn of Wake Forest, a 2016 graduate who is now employed by Oxner & Permar, Attorneys at Law; Nicole Louis, an Assistant District Attorney with the 9th Prosecutorial District; James B. Angell, partner of Howard, Stallings, From, Atkins, Angell & Davis, P.A.; Daniel Lehrer, associate of Oxner & Permar, Attorneys at Law, and a former paralegal; and Joy Belk of the N.C. State Bar’s paralegal certification division.

VGCC’s program is designated as a “Qualified Paralegal Studies Program” by the N.C. State Bar, meaning that graduates may sit for the state’s paralegal certification exam. Upon passing the exam, students are designated as North Carolina Certified Paralegals (NCCP).

The Franklin Campus is located at 8100 Hwy. 56, just outside Louisburg.
