VGCC Franklin Campus to host second Food Truck Rodeo

Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus will be the site of a Food Truck Rodeo on Tuesday, Sept. 1, from 5 until 7 p.m. The public is invited.

Five food trucks based in the Raleigh area are scheduled to be featured: Ladybug’s Treats (specializing in homemade desserts), CockADoodleMoo (chicken, barbecue and burgers), Sweet Traditions (cakes and cupcakes), AmigoSan (a blend of Mexican and Asian cuisine) and Chick-n-Que (known for their chopped chicken barbeque and ostrich burgers).

The “rodeo” comes just days after VGCC wraps up a series of four workshops in a Mobile Food Truck Entrepreneurship program, also held at Franklin Campus. The program, unique in North Carolina, is a partnership of VGCC’s Small Business Center and Personal Enrichment department . Students who have completed the series will attend the rodeo as a way to cap off their training. The Sept. 1 rodeo is the second such event held at VGCC and marks the completion of the second set of Food Truck workshops.

Queen Harris, co-owner/operator of Chick-n-Que, has served as the instructor for the workshops. Harris and her husband have been operating a food truck for more than six years and recently also opened a restaurant. Through the VGCC series, Harris helped guide participants through the steps of planning, starting and maintaining a food truck or food cart business.

The campus is located on N.C. 56, just west of Louisburg.
