VGCC offers two free Small Business Seminars June 22

The Vance-Granville Community College Small Business Center has scheduled a pair of free seminars for Monday, June 22, at the college’s Main Campus in Vance County.

Accounting for Small Cosmetology Businesses” will be held from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. that day, while “Marketing Your Business for Success” will follow from noon until 3 p.m. The location for both is Room 7107 (Building 7).

Leading both seminars will be Harry Ponder of Carolina Business Services in Weaverville, N.C. Ponder is the former director of the Small Business Center at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College and has taught many courses for the VGCC Small Business Center.

In the first seminar, Ponder will cover the fundamentals of accounting and bookkeeping with the new owner/operator of a salon or similar business in mind. Specifically, the seminar addresses the types of records that should be kept; filing taxes; what type of record keeping system to use; and more. Ponder will guide attendees to learn how to read financial statements properly and how to grab meaningful information from their records.

The second seminar is designed to help all small business owners understand how to market their products and services in a way that will increase the success of their operation. Ponder will help them understand what information they need to know about their market in order to reach customers. The seminar will also teach participants the different ways to market what they sell and how to determine if they are being successful with their marketing efforts.

For more information and to reserve a seat in one or both of these free seminars, contact Small Business Center director Tanya Weary at smallbusiness@vgcc.edu  or (252) 738-3240.
