VGCC schedules EMT-Basic training at Warren Campus

Vance-Granville Community College has scheduled an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic course, starting Tuesday, Sept. 23, and continuing through Feb. 11, 2015, at the college’s Warren County Campus in Warrenton.

This course represents the first phase of training in the EMT career field. Classes will be held Monday through Thursday each week, plus some additional meetings on certain Saturdays.

The course covers all techniques of emergency medical care presently considered within the scope of the Emergency Medical Technician, as well as operational aspects of the job which the EMT will be expected to perform. Approximately 169 to 203 hours in length, the course includes classroom learning, skills development, and clinical training. The clinical portion involves observation and participation in an emergency department under the supervision of the hospital staff.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will take the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) certification exam.

In order to enroll in the program, students are required to hold a high school diploma, high school equivalency, or demonstrate a reading proficiency of at least tenth grade on a standard reading examination.

Tuition for the course is $180. Insurance and additional fees will also be charged.

VGCC offers Emergency Medical Services training from the Basic to the Paramedic level, in addition to continuing education.
