Healthcare training courses scheduled at VGCC Franklin Campus

Vance-Granville Community College has scheduled several occupational healthcare courses to start in September at the college’s Franklin County Campus , located on N.C. 56 just outside Louisburg.

 

The Medication Aide course is set to be held Monday-Thursday, Sept. 8-11, each day from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Cindy McCuiston will serve as the instructor. Graduates of the Medication Aide course will be prepared to administer medications in a skilled nursing setting, and to sit for the state examination. Those who complete the course and the exam are qualified to be listed on the North Carolina Medication Aide Registry. To register for the course, a student must have a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma and must be listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry as a CNA I in good standing. The registration fee for the course is $74, in addition to the cost of the textbook.

 

The Nurse Aide Level I course will also be offered on both day and evening schedules. The evening class, with instructor Bonnie Elias, will meet Monday-Thursday, Sept. 16 through Dec. 16, from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m. Cindy McCuiston will teach the daytime class, scheduled to meet Monday-Thursday, Sept. 22 through Nov. 20, from 7:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. This 210-hour program prepares students for employment in a variety of health care settings, including nursing homes, assisted living homes, home care, hospitals and doctor’s offices. Nursing assistants provide basic patient care and assist the nursing staff with routine daily tasks. Classroom, laboratory and clinical learning experiences are included. For either class, the cost is $205 plus applicable fees.
