VGCC offers High School Equivalency class in Spanish

Vance-Granville Community College will soon offer a High School Equivalency preparation course in Spanish. “High School Equivalency” is the new name for what was formerly known as the GED Test ®.

This class is conducted in Spanish by instructor Jose Martinez and will meet on Saturdays from September 6 through December 13, 2014, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on the Main Campus of VGCC in Henderson.

Students in the class will prepare for tests focused on basic skills. Passing the HSE tests certifies that the test-taker has skills at the high school academic level. Obtaining the HSE provides students with opportunities to obtain better jobs or to continue their education. Successful participants are better able to support themselves and their families.

The cost is $145 for the entire class. After completing the class, students may later choose to take the official tests on each of four subject areas: Reasoning through Language Arts; Mathematical Reasoning; Science; and Social Studies.

These four tests, which students must pass to earn the HSE , are offered on computer in Spanish or in English. VGCC is a Pearson VUE Authorized Test Center and is approved to deliver the tests on computers at two campus locations: Main Campus (Henderson) and Franklin County Campus (Louisburg). The cost of the complete set of HSE tests is $80 ($20 per content area test). To sign up for testing at either location, register online at GED.com or call 1-877-EXAM-GED .

Students are encouraged to register for this preparatory class online at vgcc.springerstudios.net/ped  or in person in room 7124 on the Main Campus of VGCC, on Tuesdays or Thursdays anytime between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
