VGCC Students conduct successful food drive for kids

The Office Administration Club at Vance-Granville Community College recently conducted a community service project to help local schoolchildren in need. Students participated in the nationwide “BackPack Buddies” movement, which seeks to provide children in low-income households with food for the weekend during the school year.

In April and May, the club collected non-perishable food items donated by VGCC students, faculty and staff, along with contributions from Moss Foods of Louisburg. There were collection sites at the college’s Main Campus in Vance County, South Campus in Granville County and the Franklin County Campus.

Donations were delivered to Area Christians Together in Service (ACTS) in Vance County, Louisburg Elementary School and Butner-Stem Elementary School.

Club members Danielle Yancey of Henderson, Timeka Harrison of Macon and Ethel Sims of Louisburg coordinated the project.

The purpose of the Office Administration Club is to represent students in any curriculum program at the college with a strong interest in a career as an Administrative Professional. Most members are students in the Office Administration , Office Administration/Legal and Medical Office Administration programs. Advisors for the club are Tammy Ball, Sharon O’Geary and Christal Swilley. Medical Office Administration student Jacqueline Davis served as club president this year.
