VGCC Golf season ends with conference tournament

The Vance-Granville Community College golf team competed at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region X Division II Conference Championship, which was held on April 12-13 at The Emerald Golf Club in New Bern.

 

Two VGCC Vanguards placed in the top 15 in the individual standings. Pierce Isley of Oxford placed 11th, with a score of 163 over the two-day tournament (79 on the first day and 84 on the second day). His teammate, Tyler Woodside of Oxford, finished 13th, with a score of 171 (86 on the first day and 85 on the second day). Also playing for VGCC were Brett Greenway and Josh Mercer, both of Henderson. They were accompanied by Golf Coach Bobby Paff.

 

Surry Community College won the tournament as a team, and Chandler White of Surry CC was the top individual golfer. Other colleges participating in the Division II tournament were Patrick Henry Community College and Johnston Community College.
