VGCC Golfer wins individual title at tournament

Tyler Woodside of Oxford, a member of the golf team at Vance-Granville Community College, was the individual medalist at the Johnston Community College Spring Invitational, held March 24 at the Country Club of Johnston County in Smithfield. Originally scheduled as a two-day event, inclement weather shortened the tournament to one day.

With a score of 78 (six over par), Woodside (pictured above) had the best score among all 19 participating golfers. Pierce Isley, Josh Mercer and Brett Greenway also competed for the VGCC Vanguards squad. Other colleges with student-athletes at the tournament included Patrick Henry Community College (which won the tournament as a team), Louisburg College, Central Carolina Community College and host Johnston Community College.

Earlier in the season, on March 14, at the Central Carolina Cougar Classic, Isley and Greenway played for VGCC. Isley finished tenth among the 26 men competing, with a score of 85. Other colleges participating included Sandhills CC, Johnston CC, Surry CC, Patrick Henry CC, Louisburg College and host Central Carolina CC.
