VGCC Golf team starts 2014 season

The Vance-Granville Community College golf team will participate in several tournaments around the state during the 2014 season .

 

For one golfer, the season has already begun. On Feb. 17, VGCC student-athlete Becky Anderson of Henderson played in an invitational open only to women, which was hosted by Sandhills Community College at the Legacy Golf Links in Pinehurst. Anderson shot a 95 and finished in second place, four shots behind Sandhills Community College’s Erica Clinard.

 

The other tournaments in which the VGCC Vanguards will participate this season are for both male and female golfers. VGCC will host one tournament, March 17-18, at the Henderson Country Club.

 

The season concludes with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region X Championship tournament, April 12-13 in New Bern.

 

In addition to Anderson, the team includes Brett Greenway and Josh Mercer, both of Henderson, along with Tyler Woodside and Pierce Isley, both of Oxford. VGCC’s golf coach is Bobby Paff.
