VGCC Dinner Theater Cast Announced
Vance-Granville Community College has announced the cast for its special Dinner Theater production of the classic play “Our Town,” which will be presented on the evenings of April 25 and April 26 in the Civic Center on VGCC’s Main Campus in Vance County.
The award-winning Thornton Wilder play, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year as the North Carolina Community College System celebrates its 50th anniversary , focuses on the everyday lives of people in Grover’s Corners, a small New Hampshire town in the early 20th century.
Joy Chalmers of Oxford plays the Stage Manager, who serves as narrator, commentator, and guide through the town. The central characters of the drama are members of two families. Cody Trivette of Oxford plays Doc Gibbs; Lauren Elliott of Oxford, his wife; Spencer Nunn of Warrenton, their son, George; and Bobbie Clayton of Rougemont, their daughter, Rebecca. Mark Tillotson of Oxford takes on the role of Charles Webb, editor of the town paper, while Rachel Pottern of Wake Forest plays his wife. Their children, Emily and Wally, are played by Cameron Kester of Bullock and Santiago Juarez of Louisburg, respectively.
The cast also includes Dishon Cobbins of Louisburg as Joe Crowell and Si Crowell; Charles Douglas of Henderson as Howie Newsome; Mindy Cash of Henderson as Woman in balcony and First Dead Woman; Riley Frazier of Durham as Lady in Box and Second Dead Woman; Jordan Bunting of Rocky Mount as Simon Stimson; Button Brady of Clarksville, Va. as Mrs. Soames; Rev. Patrick Cox of Oxford as the Minister; Courtney Mitchell of Franklinton as Mrs. Morgan, Woman in Crowd and Third Dead Woman; and Zach Harris of Norlina as Constable Warren.
Most cast members are current students at the college. The exceptions are Brady, a Biology instructor; Elliott, a VGCC Business Office staff member and alumna; and Cox, an adjunct instructor of Religion at the college.
Betsy Henderson , the VGCC Department Chair of Fine Arts and Humanities, directs the play.
The Dinner Theater will begin at 6 p.m. each night with dinner prepared and served by students in the VGCC Culinary Arts program , followed by the play. The April 25 opening night performance features a seated dinner, while the encore performance on Friday, April 26 features buffet service. Tickets are $25 and are on sale online.
