VGCC Franklin Campus offers Biological Wastewater Treatment training

An upcoming week-long course scheduled at Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus will prepare area residents to start new careers in the wastewater treatment profession.

A Biological Wastewater Treatment Systems Operator Course (Grade I) will be held Monday-Friday, Oct. 1-5, each day from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on the campus, located on N.C. 56, just west of Louisburg. The 34-hour course will cover general knowledge of the operation of wastewater treatment systems, the laws and regulations related to wastewater treatment systems, equipment used in such plants, and the ability to describe general maintenance requirements for such equipment. The training is also designed to help students prepare to take the Grade I certification exam for North Carolina Water Pollution Control Systems Operators. The instructor for the course is Tony Arnold, a retired Supervisor of Training and Certification for the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources with 33 years of experience in the water/wastewater profession.

VGCC’s Franklin Campus will also be offering Continuing Education classes (also taught by Tony Arnold) for individuals who are already N.C. Certified Water & Wastewater Operators. The six-hour class will be held over the course of two days and has been approved by the state for six CEU’s for surface/well treatment, distribution and cross-connection operators and wastewater treatment/collection operators. Students can choose to take the class Oct. 9 and Oct. 11, or Dec. 4 and Dec. 6. All classes are held from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
