Phlebotomy training scheduled at VGCC Warren Campus

Vance-Granville Community College is currently registering students for a Phlebotomy course that is scheduled to start soon at the college’s Warren County Campus , located at 210 West Ridgeway Street in Warrenton. Warren Campus is the only VGCC location where the Phlebotomy program will be offered this fall. Area residents interested in health-care occupations can also take advantage of Nurse Aide Level I (CNA I) and Medication Aide training available at the same campus.

The Phlebotomy course will start Oct. 9, 2012 and continue through Feb. 7, 2013. Training includes lecture, laboratory practice, and hands-on patient care in area facilities. Classes will be held Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., while clinical training times will vary. Kathy Bedussi is the instructor.

Graduates of this program are eligible to sit for the American Medical Technologists (AMT) national certification exam. Phlebotomists, also known as Phlebotomy Technicians, obtain blood specimens from patients’ arteries or veins in a variety of medical settings, including hospitals, clinics, mobile labs and doctor’s offices.

The cost of this course is a $175 registration fee, plus other applicable fees and the cost of textbooks. To register for the course, a student must have a high school diploma or GED .
