Nurse Aide, Medication Aide training scheduled at VGCC Warren Campus

Vance-Granville Community College is currently registering students for a pair of training courses for health-care occupations , which are scheduled to start soon at the college’s Warren County Campus , located at 210 West Ridgeway Street in Warrenton.

A Nurse Aide Level I (CNA I) course will be held Monday-Thursday from 5 until 9 p.m., starting Aug. 20 and continuing through Nov. 21. This includes the required introductory course. The Nurse Aide I program prepares students to become Certified Nursing Assistants and to take the state CNA certification exam. VGCC’s certification programs offer classroom education, laboratory training, and clinical experiences in local nursing facilities and hospitals. Jobs for CNAs are available at nursing homes, home health care agencies, physicians’ offices and other health-care facilities.

To register for the course, a student should bring a Social Security card, a picture ID and a negative TB skin test result that is less than one year old. The cost of this course is $175 plus $25 in fees and the cost of the textbook.

Another Warren Campus course allows local residents to qualify as a Medication Aide.

Classes will be held Monday, Sept. 17 through Thursday, Sept. 20, from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Graduates of the Medication Aide course will be prepared to administer medications in a skilled nursing setting, and to sit for the state examination. Those who complete the course and the exam are qualified to be listed on the North Carolina Medication Aide Registry.

To register for the course, a student must have a high school diploma or GED and must be listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry as a CNA I in good standing. The registration fee for the course is $65, in addition to a campus access fee and the cost of the textbook.

In addition to offering these two programs, Warren Campus is the only VGCC location where the Phlebotomy program will be offered this fall.
