Kerr Lake Art Show winners named

Entries in the 47th Annual Kerr Lake Art Show, co-sponsored by Vance-Granville Community College and the Kerr Lake Art Society, were judged and put on display for the public on the second floor of Building 7 on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County, May 20-31.

 

This year’s competition saw 21 visual artists from throughout the region submit a total of approximately 60 works in a variety of two-dimensional media, according to Lelia Brigham of Henderson, the Kerr Lake Art Society’s president and a part-time VGCC art instructor who coordinates the event. Cash prizes were awarded for winners in three categories: Professional, Amateur, and Photography. Martha King and Doug Ross, both of Wake Forest, served as the judges for this year’s show.

 

In the Professional category, Lin Frye of Oxford took home the first-place prize with “Day’s End,” a watercolor painting. Frances A.P. Louis of Oxford won second place for a watercolor and pencil work, “On the Boat.” Laurie Stephens of Oxford came in third for a watercolor, “Black Windowbox.” Honorable mentions in the Professional category were awarded to Jean Quick of Oxford, Wanda Satterwhite of Warrenton, and to Frye for another work.

 

In the Amateur category, Donna Perkins of Oxford took home the first-place blue ribbon for her watercolor, “Love and Courage.” A watercolor called “Big Momma’s Marbles” won second place for Diane Rainey of Oxford. Elaine Hamilton of Youngsville won third place for a mixed media painting, “Dippin’ Her Toes in the Loch.” Amateur artists recognized with honorable mentions included Deborah King of Henderson and Rainey and Perkins for other works.

 

Selena Lynn Bullock of Kittrell was the winner in the Photography category for “One Way.” Coming in second was Diane Rainey of Oxford for her photograph, “Three for Tea.” Debbie Maner of Henderson received an honorable mention.
