VGCC holds Career Day for students

Students at Vance-Granville Community College recently had a chance to explore job opportunities, distribute their resumes and network with potential employers without leaving the college’s Main Campus. On April 2, VGCC’s 36th annual Career Day was held in the college’s Civic Center.

Career Day is organized each spring by the VGCC Career Services department to give area businesses, non-profit organizations and government agencies an opportunity to tell Vance-Granville students and alumni about what they do and about the type of workers they hire. This year, 26 employers were on hand to recruit potential employees. Among the industries represented were health-care, human services, law enforcement and manufacturing.

“Career Day is an important way that Vance-Granville supports our students and leads them into success in the workforce,” said Linda Fletcher, VGCC’s director of career services. “Year in and year out, Career Day results in VGCC students obtaining jobs, and we appreciate our business partners who make this event possible.” VGCC is in the midst of a five-year “Quality Enhancement Plan” (QEP) called “Advising in 3D: Dream, Design, Discover,” which is focused in part on improved career planning for students.
