VGCC invites Public to Reception honoring new President

The Board of Trustees of Vance-Granville Community College is inviting the community to a reception on Monday, April 16, in honor of Dr. Stelfanie Williams, who became the college’s sixth president in February. The reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Civic Center on VGCC’s Main Campus in Vance County.

President Williams (pictured above) was selected to lead VGCC after several years at Central Carolina Community College in Sanford, N.C., where she most recently served as the Vice President for Economic and Community Development.

Williams was born in New York City and raised in Sanford. She attended Duke University, where she received bachelor’s degrees in Public Policy and Spanish, and Western Carolina University, where she earned a master’s degree in Project Management. Williams completed her doctorate, an Ed.D. in Adult and Higher Education, from North Carolina State University. Williams began her community college career as an adult education instructor at Central Carolina Community College, also teaching Spanish and distance education courses. In 2004, Williams served in an administrative capacity as director of Basic Skills and manager of the Siler City campus. A year later, she was appointed the college’s Director of Continuing Education for Chatham County, before being hired as Dean of Continuing Education at Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst. In 2008, Williams rejoined Central Carolina as Dean of Continuing Education, and soon took on the position of Vice President for Economic and Community Development. In that role, she led the college as the first in the North Carolina Community College System to administer Workforce Investment Act funds and operate a Workforce Development Board.

“This reception will be a wonderful opportunity to officially welcome our new president to our community,” said Donald Seifert, Sr., the chairman of the VGCC Board of Trustees. “The trustees would like everyone who is interested in the future of Vance, Granville, Franklin and Warren counties to meet Dr. Williams and join us in offering her our support and partnership.”
