VGCC Drama Students will spread “Rumors”

Vance-Granville Community College drama students will stage a production of Neil Simon’s comedy, “Rumors,” Thursday, March 8 through Sunday, March 11.

Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. on March 8, 9 and 10, with matinees at 2 p.m. on March 10-11. All performances are in the small auditorium in Building 2 on the college’s Main Campus in Henderson.

Simon, America’s premier comic playwright, delighted audiences with this out-and-out funny offering when it opened on Broadway in 1988. The farcical play finds four couples at the townhouse of a deputy New York City mayor and his wife to celebrate the hosts’ tenth wedding anniversary. The party never begins because the host has shot himself through the earlobe (it’s only a flesh wound) and his wife is missing. His lawyer’s cover-up gets progressively more difficult to sustain as the other guests arrive and nobody can remember who has been told what about whom. Doors slam and hilarity abounds as the couples get more and more crazed.

The cast includes VGCC students Cameron Kester of Bullock as Cassie Cooper; Cody Trivette of Oxford as Lenny Ganz; Nick Henderson of Oxford as Ernie Cusack; Jennie Robinson of Henderson as Cookie Cusack; Joy Chalmers of Oxford as Claire Ganz; Patrick Miracle of Warrenton as Glenn Cooper; Spencer Nunn of Warrenton as Ken Gorman; Rachel Pottern of Wake Forest as Chris Gorman; Shaneisha Eaton of Henderson as Officer Welch; and Jerome Bulluck of Henderson as Officer Pudney. VGCC Theatre Arts/speech instructor Betsy Henderson directs the play.

Admission is $10 for the general public, and $5 for students, VGCC faculty and staff, and seniors. Tickets may be purchased at the door, but attendees are encouraged to secure their seats by making reservations. For more information and to reserve seats, call Betsy Henderson at (252) 738-3371.
