VGCC announces Vanguards Basketball schedule

The Vance-Granville Community College Vanguards men’s basketball team is scheduled to play 26 games during the 2013-2014 season, including 11 home games. This is the program’s first season under the leadership of new VGCC head coach Michael Woody.

The Vanguards compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II, which includes 11 two-year colleges in North Carolina and Virginia.

The regular season kicks off when VGCC hosts the Eagles from Wake Technical Community College on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. All home games are scheduled to be played at Aycock Recreation Center in Henderson (307 Carey Chapel Rd., Henderson), and all are free and open to the public.

VGCC’s tough conference schedule is again highlighted by area rival, and perennial powerhouse, Louisburg College. VGCC travels to Louisburg on Jan. 15, before the Hurricanes return the favor in Henderson on Feb. 10.

As in the 2012-2013 season, VGCC also has scheduled a pair of non-conference games with four-year Mid-Atlantic Christian University. For the first time, VGCC will play JV squads from two other four-year schools: Guilford College in Greensboro and St. Andrews University in Laurinburg.

The regular season will continue through February, with VGCC’s final opponent scheduled to be Guilford Technical Community College, at home on Feb. 26. After the regular season ends, the Vanguards are scheduled to participate in the NJCAA Division II Region X tournament, which will be held in March in Hickory.
