VGCC Community Band announces first fall rehearsal

The Vance-Granville Community Band is gearing up for another year of entertaining local music lovers. The ensemble will hold its first rehearsal for the 2011-2012 year on Monday, Aug. 22 from 7 until 9 p.m. in the Civic Center on VGCC’s main campus in Vance County. Anyone with an interest in participating in the band is welcome to attend.

Area musicians are invited to contribute their time and talents to the Community Band, which is a joint effort between interested citizens and students. VGCC music instructor Michael Stephenson leads the band, which rehearses on Monday evenings. Stephenson is currently planning for several concerts throughout the academic year, including a holiday-themed concert at the Civic Center on Dec. 12. The band also hosts the North Carolina Community Band Festival, which is scheduled for March 31, 2012.

Formed in 2008, the community band has grown to approximately 50 members, including people from all four counties of the VGCC service area (Vance, Granville, Warren and Franklin) and beyond. For more information on the band, call Michael Stephenson at (252) 738-3346.
