VGCC Awards 325 Scholarships to students
Vance-Granville Community College awarded 325 scholarships to full-time students at a ceremony held Feb. 23 in the college’s Civic Center.
In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Randy Parker, the president of VGCC, said the annual event was among the happiest occasions at the college throughout the year, second only to graduation. Parker thanked the donors who support the college’s Endowment Fund , many of whom were on hand to present their scholarships in person. “No community college in the state can boast of having more endowed scholarships than Vance-Granville,” the president said. Parker noted that more than 6,000 scholarships had been awarded to VGCC students since 1982.
Scholarships of various levels, including 23 Presidential Scholar Awards, 82 Presidential Merit Awards, 201 Academic Achievement scholarships and 19 annual (non-endowed) scholarships, were awarded at the ceremony, representing $210,650.
Scholarships have been established by individuals, industries, businesses, civic groups, churches and the college’s faculty and staff to assist deserving VGCC students in their academic endeavors.
