SPINNING AT VGCC

The panel of the statewide political talk show NC SPIN discuss what may happen at the next session of the North Carolina General Assembly during a mock presentation of the show May 2 in the Vance-Granville Community College Civic Center. Legislative topics covered during the discussion included the budget, the lottery, lobbying and ethics reform, health care, a death penalty moratorium and possible salary increases for state employees. From left are Chris Fitzsimon, director of N.C. Policy Watch, Phil Kirk, vice president of Catawba College and former head of the State Board of Education, Tom Campbell, moderator and chief executive officer of NC SPIN, Kennon Briggs, vice president of business and finance for the N.C. Community College System, and Theresa Kostrzewa, lobbyist and community relations consultant. About 70 people from surrounding communities attended the debate, sponsored by the college’s Endowment Fund and several local businesses.
