VGCC Graduates 7 Certified Nurse Assistants in South Campus Class

Vance-Granville Community College has graduated its first day class of 2006 for the Certified Nursing Assistant I program.

Ceremonies were held March 16 at Pergamon Restaurant in Creedmoor to honor the seven graduates who each received individual awards and gold pins. They are Baldan Abayhan of Durham, Patricia Andrews and Treeva Pace of Butner, Stephanie Geercken of Franklinton, Kelly Mankowski of Creedmoor, Nicole Messer of Oxford and Sheryl Moxley of Stem.

The graduates completed four weeks of classroom instruction at South Campus and three weeks of clinical experience at Brantwood Nursing and Retirement Facility in Oxford. They also successfully completed a state clinical exam and written competency exam to earn their certification.

Julie Cooke is the director of the VGCC Nursing Assistant program, Sujaya Devarayasamudram is the clinical instructor at South Campus, and Sheri Kemp-Bruce is the lecture instructor. Greg Champion of Butner Public Safety was the CPR instructor for the class, and Elvin McShaw was the clinical assistant.
