Cake Decorating Class Planned At VGCC’s Franklin Campus

People interested in designing and making cakes for special occasions

should check out a class planned for Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus.

The college wants to hold the eight-week Non-Traditional Cake Decorating class on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon on the campus on N.C. 56 west of Louisburg as soon as 10 people sign up to attend.

Maria Ayala, who lives in Granville County near the Franklin County line, will teach the class. She learned cake decorating techniques in her native Ecuador, has about 20 years experience in bakeries, and has taught private classes and classes on VGCC’s main campus in Vance County.

Ayala will begin with the basics of planning a design of special cakes, and the tools needed for decorating and icing cakes. The class will advance to making sugar fondant and creating flowers, leaves, animals and other decorations. Students will learn to design and make cakes for birthdays, graduations, anniversaries and other special occasions.

Cost of the class will be $30. Interested persons should register by calling the Franklin County Campus at (919) 496-1567.
