Franklin Campus Student Takes First In VGCC Cosmetology Competition

Serenia Lester of Warrenton, a Cosmetology student at Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus, took first place in the annual Hair Styling competition held April 10 at VGCC’s Civic Center.

Yu’londa Mathews of Youngsville was the model for Lester’s winning hair style.

Sixteen students from all four of Vance-Granville’s campuses, in addition to students in the VGCC Cosmetology program at Southern Vance High School and Franklinton High School, competed in the competition. Professional hair stylists and salon operators from the area judged the competition.

The runner-up prize for the competition was taken by Southern Vance High student Antonea Harris, who fashioned her style on fellow student Tuwanna Leonard.

Third place was won by Jamie Durham of Henderson, a student on the VGCC main campus in Vance County. Her model was Crystal Johnson of Henderson.

The winners received trophies and hair styling products and implements for their prizes.
