Teachers May Earn Renewal Credits With VGCC Computer Classes

Area public school teachers who need renewal credits may earn them through classes being taught at the Vance-Granville Community College Computer Center and online this summer.

Computer Skills for the Classroom, which covers Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Publisher, will be offered twice during the summer at the main campus in Vance County.

Session One will be held from June 5-July 6, will cover 36 hours of classroom instruction and will provide 3.6 continuing education units. Session Two, from July 10-Aug. 10, will cover 32 hours and offer 3.2 CEUs.

Amy O’Geary, who instructs in the college’s Office Systems curriculum program, will teach these two classes, which will run from 8 a.m. to noon on Mondays and Thursdays.

Cost of each class is $60. Call (252) 738-3328 or (252) 738-3417 to register.

Another excellent opportunity to get CEUs is a Reading Renewal Course called “Ready, Set, Read,” which is being offered online this summer. This course description says teachers can learn what the newest research says about how children really learn to read and write, and it can become a powerful guide to literacy development for working with young children.

Online courses are available in 24-hour units, last for six weeks and provide 2.4 CEUs. In addition to the reading renewal course, there are more than two dozen other classes available online that provide continuing education units. Interested teachers may view the complete course catalog at http://www.online.vgcc.edu.

Cost of an online class is $55, and persons my register by calling (252) 738-3328 or (252) 738-3417.
