VGCC Offers Activity Coordinator Course

The College Services Division ofVance-Granville Community College will offer a 60-hour Activity Coordinator course to prepare persons to become certified in the activity coordinator profession.

Classes will be held at Brantwood Nursing Center in Oxford on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. Classes will begin Tuesday, March 25, and run to May 29.

Sandra Wood, a nationally-certified Activity Coordinator who fills that position at Brantwood, will instruct the course. She said persons who are working in rest homes, nursing homes and similar facilities would be interested in the course. Those who complete the 60 hours will be qualified to seek certification by following the requirements of the National Certification Council of Activity Professionals.

Instruction will include professionalism, program planning, working with volunteers, budgeting, and working with the community, as well as other areas.

Registration for the course is $60, and a textbook costing approximately $90 is required. Pre-registration is required in order to ensure that adequate study materials are available.
