Non-Violence Workshop Held for SNCAE Students

Students in the Early Childhood Associate/Teacher Associate programs have a chapter of the Student North Carolina Association of Educators that is affiliated with the largest teacher organization in the world.

Frequently, NCAE representatives conduct workshops for the VGCC students, and on November 19-20, 2002, two of them conducted Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training for VGCC’s future teacher associates.

They emphasized recognizing early warning signals of violence in the classroom and verbal techniques to avoid physical conflict. If all else fails and violence does occur in the classroom, the instructors demonstrated, and the students practiced, self-defense techniques.

Teacher Associate Program Head and Instructor Jackie Heath said the NCAE workshops are wonderful resources to supplement the student’s classroom instruction.
