Sylvia Jones Takes Presidency Of Statewide Organization

Sylvia Jones, coordinator of Workforce Investment Act at VGCC, has been elected president of the North Carolina Employment Training Association.

The association is composed of professionals from Social Services departments, Employment Security Commission, community colleges, the Department of Labor, Vocational Rehabilitation — any group involved in workforce training, and it is the oldest of its kind in the nation.

Jones’ election took place at the association’s recent State Conference in Asheville. She has served on the state board for seven years. As president, she will plan state conferences and state board meetings, as well as other functions of the association.

Jones joined VGCC in 1989 with the Job Training Partnership Act, whose name has been changed to Workforce Investment Act.
