VGCC Phone System Upgrade Makes Calling Much Easier

Vance-Granville Community College phone system is getting a major upgrade that will result in direct phone numbers to employees without going through the switchboard. In addition, there is a new version of voice mail.

The upgrade is taking place today (March 15) on Main Campus. It is scheduled for March 29 at South Campus and April 5 at Warren Campus.

TELEPHONE LISTINGS DIRECTORY:

The Telephone Listings published by the Marketing Department will be updated in the coming days once all of the new extensions are available for South and Warren. In the meantime, you may access the web Staff & Faculty Directory for all of the newest extensions:

(If you see changes that need to be made in the web directory, please write to James Edwards at

edwards@vgcc.edu

or call him at Ext. 3243.

KEY CHANGES:

Training on the phone system was required for all employees, and sessions were held this week. Two key changes in the system on Main Campus are as follows:

(1) We now have four-digit extensions. Our new extension starts with the number “3” and is followed by our old three-digit extension. (Ext. 243 is now Ext. 3243.)

(2) Someone can dial us directly from off-campus to our phone without going through the switchboard by dialing “738-3xxx” (with the “xxx” being our old extension).

There are many other great new features as explained in the training sessions!

SATELLITES:

South Campus will be making the switchover to the new system on March 29. Until then, callers from Main Campus should dial 3442 or 3441, and then dial the appropriate secondary extension when prompted.

Warren

switches over on April 5, and the new extensions 3461 or 3462 extensions are good until then.

Franklin

‘s switchover will come at a later date; callers should dial 3453, 3451 or 3452 and then enter the appropriate extension when prompted.

MAIN NUMBERS STILL IN USE:

The campus main numbers and fax numbers will continue in use for calls from the general public.

Happy dialing!
