Criminal Justice Club To Honor Law Officers Killed On Duty

In observance of national Law Enforcement Memorial Week, the Criminal Justice Department of Vance-Granville Community College will sponsor a ceremony at the college at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, May 12.

Members of the Criminal Justice Club will lay wreaths at the college flag pole to honor the memory of the six officers in North Carolina killed in the line of duty over the past year. The most recent of these, Detective William Henry Weatherly of the Warren County Sheriff’s Department, died while serving a warrant on April 16. Warren County is part of the four-county area served by Vance-Granville Community College.

The Color Guard of the Henderson Police Department and cadets in the Basic Law Enforcement class at the college will participate in the ceremonies, and Quan Bridges, assistant District Attorney for the 9
