VGCC names new head for Electronics Engineering program

The Electronics Engineering Technology program at Vance-Granville Community College is under new leadership. Wesley A. Williams of Youngsville was recently named program head/instructor for the curriculum, which prepares students to design, build, program, install, test, troubleshoot, repair, and modify electronic components, equipment and systems.

Williams (pictured above, in the VGCC Electronics Engineering lab) is a graduate of a similar program at Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, where he earned the Associate in Applied Science degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, as well as certifications in telecommunication and computer upgrade and repair, in 2005. He went on to double-major in Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, graduating earlier this year. He has been an instructor in the Engineering department at CFCC for several years.

Williams is certified as a journeyman-level electronics technician by the Electronics Technician Association International, of which he is a member, and certified by CompTIA as an A+ computer technician. He is also a member of the Association of Computing Machinery and of Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the honor society for the computing and information disciplines.

VGCC offers both the two-year degree and a certificate in Electronics Engineering Technology . The fall semester begins on Aug. 17. For more information on the EET program, contact Williams at (252) 738-3256.
