VGCC Franklin Campus offers Training for residents and businesses

Summer classes at Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus near Louisburg give area residents opportunities to gain new skills for personal or workplace use.

Substitute Teacher Training will be offered at the campus on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. until noon, June 14 through Aug. 24. Brenda Solomon is the instructor for the training, which costs $120.00.

Medication Aide training will be conducted by instructor Alyssa Brodie, Monday-Thursday from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m., June 15 through June 24. To register for the course, a student must have a high school diploma or GED and must be listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry as a CNA I in good standing. Students who successfully complete the course will be able to take a state exam and qualify to be listed on the North Carolina Medication Aide Registry. Medication Aide prepares students to administer medications in settings such as home-health agencies and skilled nursing facilities under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The registration fee is $65.

A course on “Building Welding Skills,” taught by Charles Oakley, will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m., June 22 through Aug. 26. The registration fee is $175.

The “Beginner’s Guide to Computers and the Internet” course will be held on Wednesdays, June 23 through July 28. The course will meet from Noon to 4:00 p.m. The fee for this course is $65.

Finally, ServSafe, the 16-hour food safety certification course, will be offered at the Franklin Campus in cooperation with area health departments. Participants will meet on two days, June 29 and June 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Peter Lambert of Oxford will serve as the instructor for the course, which is designed for food service managers and supervisory staff in restaurants, hospitals, nursing homes, child care facilities and other food service establishments. The course fee is $65.
