New VGCC class focuses on Safety in Cyberspace

Vance-Granville Community College will offer a new course, “Social Networking and PC Security,” on Tuesday nights from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., May 18 through July 6.

Students will learn the basics of social networking, including how to create accounts for themselves on two of the most popular social networking sites, Facebook and MySpace. Additionally, students will learn the dangers of social networking, particularly to their personal computers and passwords, and how to implement basic security solutions to minimize risks.

Students should be familiar with general PC terminology and have a basic understanding of Windows to take this course. Donna Gill, an instructor for VGCC’s Information Systems Security and Networking Technology programs, will teach this class, which will meet in Building 7, room 7330.

The cost of the course includes a $65 registration fee, $2 security/access fee and a $3 technology fee.
