VGCC to add Entrepreneurship Program

Vance-Granville Community College will introduce a new curriculum program in the upcoming Fall 2010 semester that will prepare students to open their own businesses. The new Entrepreneurship degree program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for employment and growth as self-employed business owners.

“The Entrepreneurship program will give students the knowledge they need to take that ‘seed’ of an idea they have for a new product or service and bring it to fruition in the marketplace,” said VGCC Dean of Business and Applied Technologies Bobby Van Brunt. “Innovation and creativity have always been hallmarks of American capitalism, and we want that spirit of ingenuity to flourish. We believe there is tremendous opportunity for creation of unique services and processes that will partner well within the existing economy, not just in our college’s four-county service area but also with the diversity of industry in the nearby Raleigh-Durham area.”

Course work in the two-year degree program will develop creative thinking and the ability to make informed decisions as future business owners, in areas including location, financing, marketing, management, computers and economics. Graduates will be prepared to open their own businesses, and they will have a sound education base in entrepreneurship for lifelong learning.
