VGCC volunteers help out with UNC-TV fundraiser

Vance-Granville Community College recently sent a group of some 30 volunteers to Research Triangle Park to continue the college’s tradition of helping UNC-TV with the public broadcasting network’s on-air “Festival 2011” fundraiser. Students, faculty and staff members traveled to the UNC-TV studio on March 19 and worked the phones for several hours, all the while proudly wearing their VGCC Vanguards t-shirts.

Among those who participated but were not pictured were VGCC President Randy Parker, Director of Student Activities and Athletics Jasmine Hightower, instructors Tracey Bennett, Francine Davis, Gloria Freeman, Roxanne Jackson (with her husband, Mickey) and Steven Woodworth (with his wife); staff members Jean Blaine, Mary Moore, Sharon Williams, Susan Boos, Sylvia Jones and Trudy Hargrove; and students Randal Chandler, Scott Daeke, Ruthie Davis, Samuel Hampton and Diane Power. Hightower thanked the volunteers and held a drawing in which several won door prizes, including a variety of gift cards and Durham Bulls apparel.

President Parker was interviewed on-air during the fundraiser, and said that VGCC was happy to take part in supporting UNC-TV, as both the college and the network “are all about trying to educate the people of our great state.”
