VGCC schedules JobsNOW Medical Billing & Coding training

Vance-Granville Community College will soon offer training in a growing health care career field through the statewide JobsNOW program. The JobsNOW “12 in 6” initiative provides training that can be completed in six months or less in a dozen high-demand occupations. At VGCC, students can choose from three JobsNOW opportunities, all focusing on jobs in the health care field: Nursing Assistant (CNA), Phlebotomy and Medical Billing & Coding.

The Medical Billing & Coding program is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 24. Students will take several courses, including “Medical Terminology,” “Health-care Billing & Coding,” “Anatomy & Physiology,” “Medical Front Office,” and an Employability Skills course offered by the VGCC Human Resources Development (HRD) department. Medical coding is the process of taking written medical records and converting them into a numerical language in order to submit a bill for services or supplies to an insurance company for payment.

Students in the program also have the opportunity to earn their Career Readiness Certification (CRC). Career Readiness Certificates are credentials that can be used as a complement to diplomas, degrees, and resumes, giving job seekers an advantage in the interview process and giving businesses a way to recognize skilled applicants.

Financial assistance is available for qualifying JobsNOW participants.

The JobsNOW initiative is made possible by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds, administered through the North Carolina Community College System and the North Carolina Department of Commerce. VGCC also received a $50,000 Golden LEAF Opportunities for Work (GLOW) grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation to support JobsNOW. The grant helps students in the JobsNOW program defray some of the costs of their tuition, fees, materials, uniforms and needed supplies.
