Slaughter Retires from VGCC

Carol P. Slaughter of Oxford recently retired after 21 years of dedicated service to Vance-Granville Community College. Slaughter’s colleagues held a retirement celebration for her on June 30. They were joined by some of her friends and family members, including her husband, Wilbur Slaughter, who is also a retired VGCC instructor.

Carol Slaughter retired as the Executive Assistant for the Vice President of Student Affairs, a position she has held since 2005. “Carol has been a valuable member of the Student Affairs family and we will miss her,” said Vice President of Student Affairs Gene Purvis. “VGCC is a better place for her service.” Purvis said that for many years, Slaughter’s positions made her the “face” of Building 8, the home of the Student Affairs division . She greeted and helped countless students and visitors who came seeking services from departments such as Admissions, Career Services, Counseling, Student Activities, Financial Aid and Testing.
