New VGCC Certificates will Help Students Get Job Skills Quickly

In order to react more quickly to the demands of business and industry, Vance-Granville Community College has created several new certificates that students can start earning when the fall semester begins on Aug. 18. Each certificate offers short-term training within fields already available at VGCC, ranging from Carpentry to Computer Information Technology.

“These certificates are designed to give students an opportunity for niche training and, for the currently employed, an opportunity to pick up new skills needed in the workplace,” said Bobby Van Brunt, VGCC’s Dean of Business and Applied Technologies. “The exciting thing about these certificates is that they generally can be completed in just one or two semesters, and many of them are able to be taken online. All of the credit you earn counts toward the diploma or degree in that field, too.”

The new certificates, with the corresponding diploma or degree program in parentheses, include:

Sole Proprietorship Accounting ( Accounting );
Refrigeration, Comfort Cooling, Heat Pump Technology, and Year Round Comfort Systems (all Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration Technology );
Electrical Systems, Suspension & Steering, and Transmission Systems (all Automotive Systems Technology );
Business Management and Front Line Management (both Business Administration );
Production Planning ( Business Administration/Operations Management );
Residential Foundations & Framing ( Carpentry );
Software Specialist ( Computer Information Technology );
Corrections and Law Enforcement (both Criminal Justice Technology );
Restaurant Hospitality ( Culinary Technology );
Industrial Wiring ( Electrical/Electronics Technology );
Electronics Engineering ( Electronics Engineering Technology );
Security Specialist ( Information Systems Security );
Medical Transcription ( Medical Office Administration );
Network Professional certificate ( Networking Technology );
