VGCC offers Summer CNA Course for Future Nurses

Vance-Granville Community College is offering a special Pre-Nursing Nurse Aide I course on the college’s main campus in Vance County, starting May 26 and continuing through July 20. Classes will be held 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

“This particular course is tailored particularly for students working toward a degree in Nursing,” said Julie Cooke, VGCC instructor and coordinator of the Nursing Assistant program . “They might be currently taking pre-requisites for VGCC’s Nursing program , or they might be required to be a CNA by their sophomore year in a four-year bachelor’s nursing program. This course fits into the schedules of most college students’ summer breaks, and it will be slightly more in-depth, including anatomy and physiology, and other nursing skills.”

The Nurse Aide I program prepares students to become Certified Nursing Assistants and to take the state CNA certification exam. VGCC’s certification programs offer classroom education, laboratory training, and clinical experiences in local nursing homes and hospitals. Jobs for CNAs are available at nursing homes, physicians’ offices and other health-care facilities.

To register for the course, a student should bring a Social Security card, a picture ID and the results of a negative TB skin test.

The cost to register for the course is $95.
