VGCC offers E-Notary Public course

Vance-Granville Community College’s Small Business Center will offer a course on the new legislative procedure required to perform electronic notary acts. In order to qualify for electronic notarization certification, a student must hold a current, valid commission as a North Carolina Notary Public. The course will be held on Thursday, May 14 from 5 until 9 p.m. in room 7107 of Building 7 on the college’s main campus in Vance County.

Charlene Spence will serve as the instructor.

An electronic notarization is an official act (acknowledgment, verification, proof, etc.) performed by an electronic notary public using their electronic seal and electronic signature on electronic documents. The only difference between an electronic notarization and a traditional pen-and-paper notarization is the tools that are used to perform the notarial act.

Upon completion of the course, each student must pass an exam with a grade of 80 percent or better. The student then will submit an application to the North Carolina Secretary of State’s office for his or her electronic notary commission.

The cost of the course is $50, plus the cost of the textbook.

To reserve a seat, pre-register by calling the Small Business Center at (252) 492-2061, ext. 3275 or ext. 3240.
