VGCC Automotive student wins Nationwide Contest

Nathan W. Hatchel of Henderson, a student in Vance-Granville Community College’s Automotive Systems Technology program, recently won a contest sponsored by a national magazine and an automotive parts manufacturer.

On March 2, the editor of Tomorrow’s Technician, a magazine that serves students and instructors of automotive training programs at educational institutions, informed VGCC Automotive program head/instructor Fred Brewer that Hatchel was the winner of a contest sponsored by ACDelco

Students across the country were invited to use the Tomorrow’s Technician magazine’s cardboard shipping container and “recycle” the box to create something new. Hatchel transformed the box into a representation of his own VGCC education. In one corner, there is an open book, near the words “Study with ACDelco” and “Watch your career fly.” In other corners, he constructed a lift and an engine on a stand, inspired by similar equipment in the VGCC Automotive shop. The winning entry was featured in the magazine, and Hatchel and his fellow VGCC students were treated to a pizza party on March 13, provided by the magazine and ACDelco.
