VGCC Awards Scholarships to 320 students

Vance-Granville Community College awarded scholarships to 320 full-time students at ceremonies held Feb. 25 in the college’s Civic Center.

In his welcoming remarks, VGCC President Randy Parker thanked the donors who support the college’s Endowment Fund, many of whom were on hand to present their scholarships in person. He said that such support for students was more important than ever in a time of economic uncertainty and of increasing college enrollment. Parker noted that more than 5,000 scholarships had been awarded to VGCC students since 1982.

Scholarships of various levels, including 17 Presidential Scholar Awards, 88 Presidential Merit Awards, 206 Academic Achievement scholarships and nine annual (non-endowed) scholarships were awarded at the ceremony, representing approximately $200,000.

With assets of more than $6 million, VGCC has one of the largest community college endowment and scholarship funds in the state. Scholarships have been established by individuals, industries, businesses, civic groups, churches and the college’s faculty and staff to assist deserving VGCC students in their academic endeavors.
